Gut Health

The gut, the engine that consumes food and feeds the body systems, what is processed in this area will determine how the systems it is feeding, react. This applies to almost all living things and that includes dirt, yes dirt is made up of 1000’s of living things

In a simple sample we can look at the car petrol engine, there is different types of fuel, unleaded, E10, low octane, high octane and additives to the fuel. Convert this and you have the fuel – food (macronutrients), additives – vitamins and minerals (micronutrients), you put E10 in a high performance engine it will run poorly and doesn’t matter what additives you put in with the fuel, it will not give you the same performance as if giving it, the proper high octane fuel. From the wrong fuel you can gum up the internals of the motor and a sick motor is the result, wrong fuel could also be bad fuel from a supplier

Ok, gut health, I was listening to a Podcast today and it raised a point that was very interesting and made me look at things in a different way, with all the different diets and recommendations from reliable sources and not so reliable, scientific research (see Note) etc, should we take it for granted that what ever we are told, it is correct for me. I will start of by posing this question, “Is the water running down the river in Victoria the same as the water running in say Northern Territory river” if you answered Yes, you would be wrong, before today, I would have said yes. If we disregard the human impact like pollution, farms etc, rain comes down, rain lands on the land which feeds the creeks and rivers, the land itself has different rocks, dirt, vegetation and would produce different minerals or different ratios of minerals. It maybe very little but there is a difference and as almost everything requires water tp survive. Crops watered by river water compared to crops watered by town water, I am sure you all have seen the difference between a natural rain watered garden compared to hose watered

A number of years ago, I listened to a program on the Tasmanian Devil and how it has the disease, one of the mentioned possible causes was from the water, as Tasmania had a number of man made timber forests, the leaching of the foreign timber to the water supply could be causing this, I never followed up or took much notice of that, but today, it was the first thing I flashed back to

Back to gut health, from the above understanding and todays podcast, can one person base a healthy diet from another person in a different country, take the findings of a study done on a primitive tribe or in fact someone next door as suiting me. Yes and No is the answer, you are an individual system that is unique to you, a healthy diet for your gut can only be determined on what you yourself feel from the food you eat. You can take the input from others and use these as a guide in which your body through sleep, exercise, thinking, bowl movement etc will let you know the result

The outside variables to take consideration of during the evaluation are stress, work, wifi, computers and other un-natural effects through the normal day on the body

Myself, I started a trial from a reputable resource, I went gluten free food, cutting out milk, not eating fruit with high natural sugar, no beans, peas, corn, no wheat or yeast based food, all of which where triggers for bad gut bacteria, I used this as a baseline. Went 7 months without alcohol, no tea, at least 2 litres of water a day, (mine was rain water), exercise at least 30 minutes every two days, daily walks, changed my food around following a metabolic type diet. I dropped 8kgs, body composition went from 18% to 16% body fat and felt great, had more energy, slept better, at least 8 hours a night. Could I sustain this, for me no, but I do keep some sort of balance, still exercise, have kept my weight within 2kgs of 76Kgs, some bad sleep dependant if I have alcohol or to many cups of tea, do maintain most good food habits and do have some junk food. This gives me some different outcomes as my mental projection and thoughts wander out of sync, bad nights sleep, energy is down, become a little lazy, I feel unbalanced and curse myself fo it when I waiver to much from my good food plan

What I know today is that what goes into your gut through your mouth has an effect on all or some of the body functions and outcomes, that is why gut heath is so important to get it at some sort of baseline before you start anything. What happens after that from alcohol, probiotics/prebiotics, gluten free, wheat free, dairy free, caffeine, rain water, town water etc, your body will tell you through some form whether to be a rash, sleep, bowl movement, dandruff………… just have to listen. There are reputable resources out there that can help and guide, its never ending, just have to sort out the good from the bad resources

Remember, the ‘gut health’ applies to most living things including dirt so beware of what you feed other living creatures or throw out on the ground.

How does man made vitamins and minerals, make up, moisturisers, soap, TV advertised good for you products…….. effect you? Remember that your skin and can absorb

NOTE: Any scientific research should be first looked at for its validity, was it written based on other documents, taking bits and pieces from other information derailing from the whole truth, is it sponsored by a big corporation or a company who is proving a product is incorrect for there own gain, (organic food is a good one). Scientifically proven is mostly based on what is known with assumptions applied, so be prepared to do your own findings and let your body determine what is right or wrong
